IFRDMD Convenes The Workshop On Lesson Learned On Inland Fisheries Management in Southeast Asia
IFRDMD convened the Workshop on Lesson Learned on Inland Fisheries Management in Southeast Asia at the Meeting Room of Marine and Fisheries Services of South Sumatra Province on 3 December 2019. There were 60 participants, came from the staff of Marine and Fisheries Services of South Sumatra Province, Palembang city, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, Ogan Ilir Regency, Banyuasin Regency and Musi Banyuasin Regency as well as IFRDMD officers, and Research Institute for Inland Fisheries and Extension. The Workshop was opened by Mr. I Made Suasta, Head of Capture Fisheries, Marine and Fisheries Services of South Sumatra Province. Mr. Made mentioned that some inland waters of South Sumatra Province have degraded as a result of destructive human activities. The pressure made the habitats damaged, and some aquatic species move to other habitats. Changes in the aquatic environment can make losing the sustainability of inland water resources.
Three resource persons were invited to share their experience as their expertise. Dr. A. Karim Gaffar presented about Inland Fisheries Management in South Sumatra Province. Dr. Karim is the expert of Indonesia inland fisheries management, and he explained that the main goal of ecologically sustainable development is to improve the well-being of all the people engaged directly or indirectly in the fisheries sector as well as the natural production system. The presentation session continued by Dr. Dina Muthmainnah that presented Inland Fisheries Management in Southeast Asia, and Ms. Ni Komang Suryati presented the Anguillid eel Management in South East Asia. Dr. Dina and Ms. Komang shared the result of IFRDMD’s studies from 2015 to 2019, budgeted by Japan Trust Fund VI.
During the active discussion, the participants questioned and suggested the inland fisheries and anguillid eel management that can apply in Indonesia.
IFRDMD presented the token of appreciation for Marine and Fisheries Services of South Sumatra Province, and Resource Person, and donated the Book entitled “The Features of Inland Fisheries in Southeast Asia” by Dr. Takuro Shibuno, Deputy Chief of IFRDMD. The speech from Dr. Shibuno closed the Workshop. (MA)
