SEAFDEC/IFRDMD and RIIFE-MMAF Commemorate Kartini Day 2026
SEAFDEC/Inland Fishery Resources Development and Management Department (SEAFDEC/IFRDMD), together with the Research Institute for Inland Fisheries and Extension of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (RIIFE-MMAF), commemorated Kartini Day 2026 in Palembang, Indonesia, by promoting the spirit of women’s empowerment in the digital era, equal access, and leadership.
The commemoration of Kartini Day serves as an important moment to honor the struggle of R.A. Kartini in advocating for the rights of Indonesian women, particularly in gaining equal access to education, opportunities, and roles in society. In line with this spirit, this year’s observance also served as a reflection on the importance of strengthening women’s roles in responding to changing times, including by embracing opportunities in the digital era.
In an atmosphere of togetherness, the Kartini Day 2026 commemoration at SEAFDEC/IFRDMD and RIIFE-MMAF was not merely ceremonial, but also a tribute to the contributions of women in the workplace, development, and leadership. The theme highlighted the importance of encouraging women to become more empowered, to have equal access to information and technology, and to gain wider opportunities to participate and lead.
Kartini Day is also closely associated with kebaya and traditional cloth as symbols of Indonesian women’s cultural identity. Therefore, on that occasion, female staff members wore kebaya as a symbol of respect for the nation’s cultural heritage as well as a representation of Kartini’s values, which remain relevant to this day. Their attire also added a distinct Indonesian atmosphere to the commemoration held at the office.
Through this commemoration, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD and RIIFE-MMAF reaffirmed their commitment to continuously supporting an inclusive working environment, upholding equality, and promoting the strengthening of women’s capacities so they can contribute optimally across various fields. The spirit of Kartini is expected to continue inspiring Indonesian women to move forward, create, and lead in the present and the future.
