Muara Enim Regency has been identified as one of the pilot sites for two regional initiatives supported by SEAFDEC/IFRDMD. These include the project on “Improving Fishers’ Livelihood and Fisheries Co-management in Inland and Coastal Small-scale Fisheries” and “Enhanced Research Capacities for Sustainable Utilization and Management of Eel and Other Inland Fisheries Resources.” Both initiatives aim to promote sustainable inland fisheries management while improving the livelihoods of small-scale fishing communities.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the progress of ongoing activities conducted in Muara Enim, including efforts to strengthen community participation in fisheries management and to enhance research and data collection related to inland fisheries resources. The consultation also provided an opportunity to explore further collaboration between the local fisheries authority, RIIFE, and SEAFDEC/IFRDMD in supporting sustainable fisheries practices and capacity building for local stakeholders.
As part of the visit, the delegation also participated in an office tour of RIIFE and SEAFDEC/IFRDMD
Through this visit, it is expected that the collaboration between the Fisheries Service of Muara Enim Regency and SEAFDEC/IFRDMD will continue to grow stronger. Such cooperation plays an important role in supporting sustainable inland fisheries management while enhancing the resilience and livelihoods of fishing communities in the region.
