Study on the impact of contaminant of microplastics on freshwater fish in the Komering River, South Sumatra
IFRDMD conducted sampling and data collection activities under the project entitled “Regional Collaborative Research and Capacity Building for Monitoring and Reduction of Marine Debris from Fisheries in Southeast Asia,” supported by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) 2. The sampling was conducted on July 12-17, 2024, along the Komering River, a branch of the Musi River, South Sumatra. This activity aims to evaluate the presence of microplastics in fish in the freshwater of the Komering River. A total of 35 fish species were collected to identify the presence of microplastics in their digestive organs. In addition to fish species, water, and sediment sampling werealso carried out in the Komering River. The activity will continue to extract and identify the number, size, and structure, including the polymer type of microplastics in the digestive organs of fish in the Komering River.
