IFRDMD continues the inland fisheries activity in Kampong Cham, Cambodia

On 30 September to 6 October 2022, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD visited Cambodia to continue the activity entitled “Management scheme of inland fisheries in the Southeast Asian region” budgeted by Japan Trust Fund VI Phase II.

The representatives from IFRDMD, Dr. Dina Muthmainnah and Mr. Aroef Hukmanan Rais, accompanied by Mr. Chay Kongkruy from Department of Fisheries Cambodia, visited Kampong Cham to evaluate the performance of the inland fisheries management in terms of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) by interviewing with fishers, local government, and other relevant stakeholders.

The activity included collecting the data of inland fisheries in Cambodia, that could not conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic. IFRDMD hires the fishers as the enumerators in Kampong Cham to record the daily data from their catch and send it monthly. It is valuable to monitor the species caught and its production.

During in the visitation in Kampong Cham Province, IFRDMD visited the fish processing home industry. The fish processing is dominantly run by women, while the marketing side is taken by men.
