Fish Fingerling Donation from SPEECTRA Zone to MAN 1 Palembang
As part of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) celebration themed “26 Years with MMAF: Moving, Impactful, and Sustainable toward Golden Indonesia”, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, in collaboration with the Research Institute for Inland Fisheries and Extension (RIIFE), conducted an educational support initiative by donating fish fingerlings produced at the SPEECTRA Zone in Patra Tani, Muara Enim, to MAN 1 Palembang. This initiative serves as a tangible demonstration of collaboration between research and educational institutions in extending the benefits of IFRDMD-RIIFE research to the academic community while fostering environmental awareness among youth from an early age.
The donation of fish fingerlings was not merely ceremonial, but a concrete effort to bridge the gap between field research outcomes and their application in educational settings. Through this initiative, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD aims to inspire students’ interest in inland fisheries and encourage an understanding of the importance of conserving aquatic ecosystems.
The handover ceremony took place at MAN 1 Palembang and was attended by the Deputy Chief of SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, Mr. Toru Shimoda, and the Head of General Subdivision of RIIFE, Mr. Rully Ismanto. In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the fish fingerlings were symbolically handed over to the Principal of MAN 1 Palembang, Ms. Widiawati, followed by their release into the school pond.
Through direct participation in the fish release activity, students gained a better understanding of the vital role of inland waters in maintaining ecological balance and supporting food security. At the same time, the activity strengthened their awareness that the sustainability of fisheries depends on the active involvement of communities and youth in environmental stewardship.
This initiative stands as a model of harmonious synergy among research institutions, educational establishments, and government agencies in developing human resource capacity in the fisheries sector. Through such activities, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD and RIIFE reaffirm their commitment to supporting MMAF’s vision of achieving “Indonesia Emas 2045” — by nurturing a generation that is knowledgeable, environmentally conscious, and ready to contribute to a sustainable marine and fisheries sector.
