Universitas Sriwijaya Students Complete Internship at SEAFDEC/IFRDMD

Two students from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sriwijaya, have completed their internship program at SEAFDEC Inland Fishery Resources Development and Management Department (IFRDMD). This activity was part of the project entitled “Regional Collaborative Research and Capacity Building for Monitoring and Reduction of Marine Debris from Fisheries in Southeast Asia”, supported by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).

As the final part of their internship program, the two students presented the results of their work in an Internship Seminar held at the SEAFDEC/IFRDMD office in Palembang. The seminar was attended by Senior Officers and staff from SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, academic supervisors from the Department of Chemistry, as well as other students currently undertaking internships and theses at SEAFDEC/IFRDMD and RIIFE of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

In the seminar, the students presented their involvement in research and laboratory activities related to the identification and analysis of microplastics from fisheries activities. They also shared their experiences and lessons learned during their internship.

This activity not only served as a platform for students to share their findings and experiences but also as a means for SEAFDEC/IFRDMD to strengthen collaboration with higher education institutions, particularly in enhancing the capacity of the younger generation.
