The activity aimed to strengthen participants’ practical knowledge and technical skills in conducting hydroacoustic surveys. The training covered the basic principles of hydroacoustics, echosounder operation, field survey preparation, acoustic data acquisition, and practical considerations for conducting surveys in shallow coastal and estuarine waters.
During the field activity, Mr. Freddy Supriyadi provided technical guidance and hands-on training on the use of hydroacoustic equipment for marine and fisheries research. Participants were introduced to the procedures for preparing and operating hydroacoustic instruments, collecting preliminary acoustic data, and understanding the basic considerations required to obtain reliable field observations.
Through the hands-on field sessions, participants gained direct experience in operating hydroacoustic equipment and collecting preliminary acoustic data under actual field conditions. The activity also provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange among researchers, lecturers, students, and fisheries practitioners, particularly regarding the potential application of hydroacoustic technology for assessing aquatic resources.
The participation of a representative from IFRDMD and RIIFE-MMAF highlights the importance of technical capacity building and institutional collaboration in advancing the application of hydroacoustic technology for fisheries research and sustainable aquatic resource management. Such collaboration also contributes to strengthening the link between scientific research, practical field applications, and human resource development.
The activity is expected to serve as a foundation for further collaboration among SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, RIIFE-MMAF, and Universitas Sriwijaya, particularly in the development of hydroacoustic research and its application in the coastal and estuarine waters of South Sumatra. Future cooperation may also support broader efforts to improve scientific information and technical capacity for the sustainable management of fisheries and aquatic resources.
