On 12 and 20 January 2026, five students from the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Sriwijaya University, delivered presentations outlining their planned 4- to 6-month practical study program at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/Inland Fishery Resources Development and Management Department (SEAFDEC/IFRDMD).
The practical study program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience by enabling them to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world professional and societal contexts. Through this program, students are expected to enhance their academic and professional competencies, encompassing both technical and non-technical skills, while gaining a deeper understanding of workplace culture and professional ethics. In addition, the program encourages the development of independence, responsibility, and adaptability within a professional environment.
Furthermore, this initiative serves as a platform for students to gain relevant work experience, expand their professional networks, and contribute meaningfully to host institutions. These experiences are expected to strengthen the students’ readiness and competitiveness in responding to the evolving demands of the world of work.
During their placement at IFRDMD, the five students will be supervised by senior officers and guided in producing reports or academic papers related to inland fisheries and regional cooperation. This output-oriented approach is intended to support the students in improving their analytical and academic writing skills, while also contributing useful insights and knowledge to the institution.
