This activity was an initiative of the SEAFDEC Training Department, supported by the Japan Trust Fund VII. It aimed to introduce a new tool for assessing the status of fish populations through PSA—developed by FAO—alongside the VA method from NOAA, which evaluates vulnerability to climate change.
The workshop was facilitated by several experts: Prof. Dr. Matsuishi Takashi Fritz (Hokkaido University, Japan), Dr. Rishi Sharma (FAO Senior Officer), Dr. Jitraporn Phaksopha (Kasetsart University, Thailand), Dr. Wirote Laongmanee (Burapha University, Thailand), and Dr. Ivonne Ortiz (Washington University).
This new method, which is expected to be developed, is expected to offer a more systematic approach to assessing changes in environmental conditions and can be readily applied to various types of fish populations in Southeast Asia. It will be introduced to SEAFDEC Member Countries as an alternative tool for measuring the status of fish populations in the region.
