IFRDMD ATTENDS THE 30TH MEETING OF CITES ANIMAL COMMITTEE IN GENEVA

SEAFDEC secretariat represented by Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Akito Sato, Senior expert and Assistant Project Manager for the Japanese Trust Fund Program Mr. Isao Koya and Researcher from IFRDMD Ms. Ni Komang Suryati attended The Thirtieth meeting of the Animal Committee on 16-21 July 2018 in Geneva (Switzerland). 361 members participated in the meeting, 64 countries’s party, 5 from UN and their agencies, 41 Intergovernmental Organizations, 20 Non-Governmental Organizations, and 9 Private sectors. During the working group session, IFRDMD had a chance to present the information document of the Status and Resources Management of Tropical Anguillid eels in Southeast Asia. This working group commanded to discuss on Report of the Secretariat including the Implementation of the CITES Appendix II listing of European eel (Anguilla Anguilla), Status of non-CITES listed anguillid eels and International technical workshop on eels (Anguilla spp.). Furthermore, this group wrapped up the Report of the workshop of range States of the American eel and Report from the 2nd meeting of the range States for the European eel (Anguilla Anguilla) under the Convention of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS). Besides the issue on Anguillid eels, the Animal Committee also discussed on Review of Significant Trade in specimens of Appendix-II species, and NDFs scheme of Sharks and Rays as well as other aquatic species particularly the Sea Cucumber, Banggai cardinal fish, and Precious corals.
