Visit of Banyuasin Fisheries Service to RIIFE and SEAFDEC/IFRDMD

On 12 March 2026, the Head of the Research Institute for Inland Fisheries and Extension (RIIFE), together with RIIFE staff and staff from the SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, welcomed a visit from the Fisheries Service of Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The delegation was accompanied by representatives from the Regional Planning and Research Agency, and Fisheries Inspectors from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). The delegation was led by the Acting Head of the Fisheries Service of Banyuasin Regency.

The visit aimed to strengthen communication and foster collaboration through a meeting and discussion on efforts to conserve and ensure the sustainability of the Datz Sumatra (Tigerfish Sumatera) or Datnioides microlepis, locally known as ikan elang. This species is considered an important ornamental fish resource in the region and requires appropriate management and conservation measures.

During the meeting, participants exchanged information and shared their views on the current status of the species, the challenges faced in its conservation, and potential strategies to support its sustainable management in inland waters. The discussion was conducted in an open and constructive atmosphere, allowing participants to share experiences and perspectives from their respective institutions.
