SEAFDEC/IFRDMD Encouraged to Enhance Program Visibility and Regional Impact

On 12 June 2026, the Chairman of the Agency for Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, who also serves as the SEAFDEC Alternate Council Director for Indonesia, Dr. I Nyoman Radiarta, provided direction to the SEAFDEC/IFRDMD team in a hybrid meeting. The activity was attended by the Chief, Deputy Chief, and staff of SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, as well as staff of the Agency for Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
The direction was delivered in relation to the nearly first semester of SEAFDEC/IFRDMD activities in 2026. The Chairman emphasized the importance of synchronizing SEAFDEC/IFRDMD programs to support the national programs of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, particularly in the fields of inland fisheries and human resources development in the marine and fisheries sector.
Dr. Nyoman also conveyed an evaluation of SEAFDEC/IFRDMD’s performance, which has been running for more than 10 years. Although various programs and activities have been implemented, the achievements and impacts of these programs are considered to require further strengthening so that they can become more visible, both at the national and regional levels. Therefore, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD is expected to improve program effectiveness, clarify the direction of its activities, and ensure that the results achieved can contribute directly to the development of inland fisheries and the strengthening of human resource capacity.
In addition, data management, documentation, and publication of activity results were highlighted as important aspects that require greater attention. Strengthening these three aspects is necessary to ensure that SEAFDEC/IFRDMD’s achievements are well documented, easily accessible, and more visible to stakeholders at the national and regional levels. The publication of activity results is also expected to strengthen SEAFDEC/IFRDMD’s position as a development and reference center for inland fisheries management in Southeast Asia.
During the meeting, Dr Nyoman also encouraged the development of conservation activity sites, such as SPEECTRA, beyond Patratani, in order to broaden the program’s coverage and allow its impacts to be felt by more communities. In addition, research and development cooperation should be expanded by involving research institutions and universities. This collaboration is expected to strengthen scientific support, improve program quality, and expand SEAFDEC/IFRDMD’s cooperation network.
Through this direction, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD is expected to strengthen its programs in a more focused and measurable manner. This is an important step in enhancing SEAFDEC/IFRDMD’s contribution to inland fisheries management and human resources development in Southeast Asia.
